VE Day Celebrations - 08.05.20

As you know, on Friday 8th May, we would be due to hold a VE Day celebration. Unfortunately, we can’t all be together, so instead  we would like to ask you all to join us by celebrating at home and sending in some of your pictures.  VE Day, which stands for Victory in Europe Day, was the day on which allied  forces announced the surrender of Germany in Europe on May 8th, 1945. It marked the end of Adolf Hitler’s reign and was a cause for celebration all over the world. At 3pm that day, Prime Minister Winston Churchill told the  nation that the war was over. In London, a crowd of 50,000  celebrated the momentous event in Piccadilly Circus, cheering and waving flags in the street. This year is particularly poignant, given that it’s the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

So, to celebrate we invite you to do 2 things;

  1.  On Friday 8th, make some flags at home and send us a photograph/or short video clip of the children (or even better of you as a family) waving your flags and cheering so that we can put them together on our website.
  2.  We would also like all the children to make a digital picture of themselves using the Purple Mash programme 2Paint—we have set this as a 2Do task for all children.  They should do a picture of themselves with their arms stretched out (as through they were making a giant circle and holding hands with the person either side of them.  At the bottom of the 2Paint page, there are the letters Abc—If you click on them, they will let you type—please add the child’s name.  These can be saved in the class folder in a folder called ‘Self Portraits VE Day.  We will be using them as part of a whole school project.  We would love it if they could be done by Wednesday 6th May so we can then put our plans into action for VE Day.

If you have your own celebrations planned, we would love to hear about them/see pictures of them so that we can put them on the website and share them.  Please send things in to winwick_primary@warrington.gov.uk with the subject VE Day.
