READING
At home, you should be reading AT LEAST 4 times per week. Children will have access to a range of reading material across the academic year. For those children still working through our Phonics scheme, in school, they will have their phonetically decodable reading book which links to the current phonics phase the children are working on in school; they will also have access to phonetically decodable reading books through our online 'Collins Big Cat' system so that children can practice their reading and decoding at home. In addition to this, the children will also bring home a reading book to support them to develop their reading comprehension and fluency, as well as having access to reading books that they have chosen to read for pleasure.
We will also be encouraging children to read a wide range of genres this year too - why not encourage your child to choose something to read that is different to the books they would usually go for?
Children will also have access to our online tool Reading Eggs which will also support them by giving them access to a range of reading activities to support them; they can access this whenever they like at home and login details are in ICT Passports.
Staff check reading records daily and reading books will usually be changed once a week. Please remember to send your child's reading book and reading diary into school EVERYDAY!
