Y5 - This Week's Learning - Wk7

Welcome to our Year 5 Learning Space! WC: 18-05-20

Firstly, I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to you all for sending all your work in for me to see. It really cheers me up whilst we are not together. :-)

I have been particularly impressed by the writing and the work I have received so far. I am so proud of you all and how much effort you are still all putting into all your work. I'm pretty sure that your parents are impressed too. :-)

Unfortunately, we still can't be together again in school this week, I know it is difficult and you are all starting to miss school now but you are all doing amazingly well. I am missing you all lots and I hope to see you all very very soon but for now, I've put some more work on for you to complete.

As I have said during our calls, please do not put too pressure on yourselves to get everything completed. I have set plenty of work and I am not expecting you to do it all. Little and often is the key.

If you find any work too difficult, choose an alternative task. Also don't forget that you can also use the other resources you may find online, such as BBC Bitesize etc.

I have put together some activities that you an carry on with at home. I have also included some work on Purple Mash this week too. You will also find lots of activities and resources in the 'Resources for All' tab too.

Please remember to write the date and WALT or title of each activity at the top of the page and underline it with a ruler like you would in school. You should also make sure that your work is presented neatly.

Remember to make sure that you have some time to relax, exercise and to enjoy the fresh air.

Keep safe, be happy and keep smiling. :-)

There will be no new home learning for the next 2 weeks over half term.  If you would like to continue your home learning during this time, you can do the following:
  • Daily time on Reading Plus
  • Time each week on SumDog Maths and Spelling
  • Time each week on TTRockstars
  • Look back at some of the previous weeks and have a go at some of the activities that you have not yet completed.
  • Have a look at some of the activities in the 'Resources for All' section on the website.

There has also been some Indoor/Outdoor Team Building activities added to both the Mental Health and Well-being page and the PE/Physical Fitness page.
You will find a number of activity ideas to use either in your home or whilst out on your daily exercise. The pack features a mixture of bushcraft/survival style activities that can be done with items around the house, as well as active challenges.
Enjoy and don't forget to email in some pictures of you and the family carrying out the activities. :-)
IMPORTANT: Please remember to spend some time enjoying a book and do some independent reading; why not do 10-15 minutes a day?

As it's Poetry Week this week, why not choose some poems to read.  You could choose some to perform for your family, or even video one and send it in to us at winwick_primary@warrington.gov.uk  with the subject 'POEM FOR MRS MATHER'.
Reading Plus

Remember to spend time on Reading Plus this week. I will be checking at the end of each week to see how you are getting on.  If you are struggling to access Reading Plus, ask a grown up to email the school office.
Writing
INDEPENDENT WRITING TASK:  Write a poem with the title 'Please Mrs Mather'

As you aware, I love the poem 'Please Mrs Butler'. We have read this particular one in class before and performed it to the rest of the school and you were AMAZING!

This week, I would like you to create your own version; renaming it 'Please Mrs Mather'.

You may even wish to type it up, write it in your exercise books and take pictures or even record yourself performing your poem but REMEMBER to add lots of expression :-)

I would like you to email your poem to winwick_primary@warrington.gov.uk so please make sure that these are your very best pieces of work.
Please make sure that you make the subject of the email as: POEM FOR MRS MATHER. Remember to add your name somewhere too. You are welcome to illustrate it too if you wish.

I can't wait to read them.

Maths

Below you will find numerous short burst maths questions; allowing you to further embed your understanding on previously taught topics.
Spellings
If you want to keep track of your Y5 spelling rules, have a look at the spelling homework lists that we would have been covering.  You can also back track if you want to and look at the rules that you need to focus on.
Timetables

It's BEAT THE PARENT/SIBLING time again. I hope you found that you got quicker throughout the last week.
Can you beat last week's score I wonder?
It's really important that you continue to practice your timetables daily in order for you to develop speed, fluency and accuracy.

Ongoing Learning
Geography

Attached below is an overview of numerous activities that can be completed about what would have been our new Geography unit; North and South America. They have different levels of challenge and the children can choose which one they wish to complete.
You will also find resources to support your learning this week.

Remember to put all work in your work books; complete with date and WALT.
Science

This half term, our Science unit is 'properties and changes in materials' so there will lots of investigations for you to complete.
Over the next couple of weeks, I would like you to choose ONE task from each week. You will find the resources that you may need detailed at the top of the week. I have also included a power point to support this week's task.

REMEMBER- to ALWAYS ask an adult before carrying out your investigations and to remain safe at ALL times.

Please feel free to take photographs of you carrying out your investigations. I can't wait to see them all.

RE

Paul wrote instructions about Christian living and the best way to follow Jesus. He told people when they were doing wrong and how to put it right. He told them to beware of false teaching and to be strong in the face of persecution.

Can you write your own set of instructions of how to be a Christian and to follow the teachings of Jesus? What do you do, as a Christian, to follow the teachings of Jesus? How does Jesus want us to live our lives? Why does he want us to live this way?
