Y5 - This Week's Learning - Wk5

Welcome to our Year 5 Learning Space! WC 04-05-20

Unfortunately, we still can't be together again in school this week, I know it is difficult and you are all starting to miss school now but you are all doing amazingly well. I am so proud of you all!

As I have said during our calls, please do not put too pressure on yourselves to get everything completed. I have set plenty of work and I am not expecting you to do it all. Little and often is the key.

If you find any work too difficult, choose an alternative task. Also don't forget that you can also use the other resources you may find online, such as BBC Bitesize etc.

I have put together some activities that you an carry on with at home. I have also included some work on Purple Mash this week too. You will also find lots of activities and resources in the 'Resources for All' tab too.

I have loved receiving your work and pictures of you making lovely memories with your families.

Please remember to write the date and WALT or title of each activity at the top of the page and underline it with a ruler like you would in school. You should also make sure that your work is presented neatly.

Remember to make sure that you have some time to relax, exercise and to enjoy the fresh air.

Below, you will find some amazing work that has been produced by our Year 5 Superstars.
Keep working hard. I am very proud of you all!

Reading

Within this pack, there are a variety of tasks- including comprehension. Please work your way through the booklet; completing the tasks in your work books.

This week's comprehension task is about the inspirational Colonel Tom Moore, who has raised millions of pounds for the NHS.

READING PLUS

After this week, your Reading activities for home learning can all be found on Reading Plus.  Your parents have been sent a PING with a letter which has information how to access Reading Plus that also has your personal username and password on there.  When using Reading Plus, it is a good idea to either use headphones or find a quiet space to work where you can hear the information clearly.

Please try and log in this week to make sure that you know how to use it.  When you first go onto Reading Plus, you will complete an assessment activity which will help Reading Plus identify what reading skills you need to develop.  This assessment can take approximately 40 minutes - it can be done in one go or in smaller chunks (it will save where you are up to if you don't complete it all in one go and you can go back to it later).  This week, please try to complete the assessment activity.  Thank you.

Writing

The work this week continues on from the work i set last week. Please continue with your story and then send me a copy of your independent writing.

Have fun working your way through the tasks and I look forward to reading the stories that you create.

Remember to write the date and WALT in your books.

Spelling & Grammar

Maths

For your Maths this week, I would like you to focus on your problem solving skills. Within the questions, there are some mistake. Your task is to spot them, explain what they have done wrong and to correct them.

Good luck (not that you will need it because you are all AMAZING!!)

Timetables

Your task this week is to see how quickly you can complete the timetables challenge. Maybe play 'Beat the parent' or test yourself numerous times throughout the week to see if you can beat your previous time.

Ongoing Learning
Science

For Science this week, I've decided to give you something a little different.

I have set you a 'to do' on Purple Mash. I would like you to can create a quiz all about Forces. In doing so, you will be able to show myself and your class friends everything that you have learnt about the topic over the last couple of weeks.

Have fun. I can't wait to see them.
Geography

Attached below is an overview of numerous activities that can be completed about what would have been our new Geography unit; North and South America. They have different levels of challenge and the children can choose which one they wish to complete.

Remember to put all work in your work books; complete with date and WALT.
