Reading

OXFORD OWL

For access to a range of reading books linked to book bands and resources, we can recommend signing up for free to Oxford Owl. This is a particularly useful resource, especially for those children in Key Stage 1, as it will allow children access to books at their reading level which will help maintain their progress in reading during school closure.

We would advise you to spend a number of days on one book.  First focus on reading through the book; making sure your child can read and understand all of the words.  Practice reading through and developing your child's fluency and speed when reading.  Finally, focus on their comprehension; ask them questions about the book that they have been reading and talk about the answers together.

READING PLUS (Y2 to Y6)

Please see School PING for your child's individual login details for how they can access Reading Plus.  Reading Plus will provide your child with targeted reading activities to support their skills and progress in reading.  We recommend that they spend regular time on Reading Plus each week to gain the maximum benefits of this.  Please ensure that your child has a quiet place to work, as they may need to listen to information to help them complete a task.  You should also ensure that they are working independently too.  If you have any issues with Reading Plus, please contact the school office on winwick_primary@warrington.gov.uk

Have you visited the 'Story Time' pages in our home learning section of our school website?
Each week there will be different stories for you to listen to - why not go and have a look?

Livewire Summer Reading Challenge

Every year Livewire provides a summer reading challenge, usually within their libraries. However, this year due to COVID-19 they are providing it via an all-new digital format. The theme this year is 'Silly Squad' who are a team of animal friends who love to go on adventures.

You can join the Silly Squad by heading on over to www.sillysquad.org.uk on a new adventure by setting your own personal reading challenge to complete this summer. The challenge will run from June to September so you have lots of time to take part.
